How to link to Excel
A B&R Guide
Linking a spreadsheet to Bet Angel Professional is fairly simple but there are a few things you should be aware of.
Firstly, I am often asked if the spreadsheets are compatible with Open Office or some other spreadsheet software. The answer is a definite NO! Whilst the spreadsheets may open in some other software, Bet Angel Professional can only communicate with Microsoft Excel.
Secondly, you should be aware that the spreadsheets are opened using the interface in Bet Angel Professional and not directly or on their own.
Follow these directions:
1. Open and log into Bet Angel Professional.
2. Select a market that you wish to trade in.
3. Switch to the Excel tab.
You will see the following:
Fig 1.
To connect to an Excel spreadsheet, click on the 'Browse' button.
You will then be presented with your version of the select file dialogue box. Which for me using Vista looks like this...
Fig 2.
Browse to wherever you keep your spreadsheets and select and highlight the speadsheet you wish to use. Double click on the file or click on 'Open' in the box above.
You will now be looking at the Bet Angel screen again. But still no spreadsheet! We now need to click on 'Open Workbook' from Fig 1. At this point you will discover if you have Excel installed or not. If the spreadsheet does not open and you get an error message then you need to click here and order yourself a copy of Microsoft Excel. Once you have done that come back here and try again.
But this is not the end of the link up. Most likely you are now looking at a spreadsheet with no data in it. In order to get the data across we must switch back to Bet Angel and click on the 'Connect' button in the Excel tab as in Fig.1.
You may be wondering what the 'Origin Cell A1' is all about. This is just a reference that is required by Bet Angel so that it knows where to start feeding all the data. This setting does not need to be changed and it is a bit of a puzzle why it is provided?
Once connected the data from the current market selected is fed through to the spreadsheet. Not all data is given. For example, your current balance is not given. Matched and unmatched bets information is not fed through. The ability to change markets is not available. I am in discussions with Bet Angel to try and get some of these features introduced in future versions.
Be aware that if your spreadsheet is 'active' when you connect that a bet may get fired into the market without you clicking on anything further!
Now you can move on and write your own triggers, bots, buttons and bet interface! Or just plug in one of the sheets available for download from this website.
Enjoy!
